To get a government job in Uganda, find the vacancy on an official channel, such as the Public Service Commission, a district service commission or the ministry or agency itself, check that you meet every minimum requirement in the advert, and apply exactly the way the advert says before the closing date. Government shortlisting follows the advert closely, so careful reading matters more than clever wording.
Where government jobs are advertised
Different public bodies recruit in different ways. Knowing who hires for the post you want saves you time.
- The Public Service Commission advertises many central government posts.
- District service commissions advertise posts in local governments, for example in a district or municipality.
- Ministries, agencies and authorities may advertise their own posts on their official websites and in newspapers.
- Many online applications are made through ORAMIS when the advert tells you to use it.

Anyone can copy an advert onto social media, so treat a WhatsApp or Facebook post as a lead only. Find the same vacancy on the official website or notice board before you send documents. Read "Fake jobs in Uganda" if you are unsure.
Read the advert like a checklist
A government advert usually lists the job title, the reporting line, the duties and the minimum requirements. Copy the requirements into a list and tick each one against your own papers.
- 1Qualification: the exact award and level asked for, for example a diploma or a bachelor’s degree in a named field.
- 2Experience: the number of years and the kind of work.
- 3Registration: some posts need registration with a professional body. Check the advert for the name and whether it must be current.
- 4Documents: the list of copies you must attach, and in what order.
- 5Closing date and method: where and how to submit, and what time the window closes.
If you are missing one minimum requirement, do not hope the panel will overlook it. Apply for a post you do qualify for, and keep building the missing experience or paperwork for the next advert.
Prepare your documents early
- A clear PDF CV with academic qualifications near the top. See "Government of Uganda CV format".
- Copies of academic certificates and transcripts, scanned clearly.
- Your national ID and any professional registration papers, only if the advert asks for them.
- Names and contacts of referees, who should know you are applying.
- A short application letter if the advert asks for one. See "Application letter in Uganda".
Keep the files in one folder on your phone with clear names, so that when a new advert appears you only need to check the details and send.
Apply the way the advert says
Follow the instructions to the letter. If the advert says to apply online, do not hand-deliver a paper copy instead. If it names a subject line or a single PDF, use exactly that. Submit well before the deadline, because sites and networks are slow when many people apply at once. Save the confirmation or take a screenshot when you finish.
Before
I am hardworking and I have many skills. Please consider me for any government job.
After
I am applying for the post named in the advert. I hold the degree and the years of experience it asks for, and my CV lists each one with dates so the panel can confirm them quickly.
After you apply
Shortlisted candidates are usually contacted for an interview, so keep your phone on and your email checked. Prepare with the duties in the advert and with common questions in "Job interview questions in Uganda". If you are not shortlisted, check again whether any requirement was unclear on your CV, and ask the office how feedback is given.

FAQ
Do I have to pay to apply for a government job?
Check the advert. If someone asks you to pay money into a personal number to be shortlisted or hired, treat it as a scam and verify with the official office.
Can I apply for more than one post?
Usually yes, if you meet the requirements of each. Tailor your CV to each advert instead of sending one copy to everything.
Is a recommendation from someone senior enough?
No. Shortlisting is based on the advert’s requirements, so focus on proving that you meet them.
