Free CV templates for Uganda, as PDF

Four CV formats that Ugandan employers expect: Standard, Graduate, Government and NGO. Download a sample PDF to see the layout, then make your own in the same format on your phone, free.

Pick the CV format for your job

Every format is one column of real text with plain headings, so application systems and shortlisting panels can read it. Names and organisations in the samples are made up.

Standard CV format

Banks, telecoms and private companies

Use it if: You have a few years of experience and are applying to a bank, telecom, manufacturer or other private company.

Sections, in order: Professional Summary → Work Experience → Education → Skills → References

Sample PDF

Graduate CV format

Recent graduates, internships and first jobs

Use it if: You finished university recently and are applying for an internship, graduate trainee programme or first job.

Sections, in order: Career Objective → Education → Experience and Internships → Skills → References

Sample PDF

Government CV format

Public Service Commission, ministries, URA, NSSF

Use it if: You are applying through the Public Service Commission, a district service commission, a ministry or a government agency.

Sections, in order: Personal Profile → Academic Qualifications → Employment Record → Other Skills → Referees

Sample PDF

NGO CV format

UN agencies, international and local NGOs

Use it if: You are applying to a UN agency or an international or local NGO, where results for communities matter most.

Sections, in order: Profile → Professional Experience → Education → Key Competencies → Referees

What every CV in Uganda should include

  • Your full name, a phone number you answer, a professional email address and your town. Put them in the body of the page, not in a header.
  • A short profile (three or four lines) that says what you do and what you want, written for the job you are applying for.
  • Work experience, newest job first: title, employer, dates and three or four bullets that start with a result.
  • Education: degree or diploma, institution and years, then A-level and O-level briefly if the advert asks for them.
  • Skills the advert asks for that you really have, including computer skills and languages.
  • Two or three referees who know your work and have agreed to be contacted, with their phone numbers.

What to leave out

  • 01 Photos, tables, two columns, icons and skill bars. Many application systems read them badly.
  • 02 Date of birth, religion, tribe, marital status and ID numbers, unless the advert asks for them.
  • 03 The word “resume” and US-style dates. In Uganda it is a CV, and dates read day first.
  • 04 Duty lists that start with “Responsible for”. Say what you achieved instead.

Can I download a CV format for Uganda as a PDF?

Yes. Each sample on this page is a free PDF you can download and keep as a guide. To make your own CV in the same format, use the free builder: fill it in on your phone and download your finished CV as a PDF.

Should I send my CV as a PDF or a Word document?

Send a PDF unless the advert asks for Word. A PDF looks the same on every phone and computer, so your layout doesn’t break. Make sure it is a real text PDF, not a scanned photo of a printed CV.

Which CV format is best in Uganda?

The one that matches the job. Use the Standard format for private companies, Graduate if you have little experience, Government for Public Service Commission and district jobs, and NGO for UN and NGO roles. All four are single-column and easy for application systems to read.

How long should a CV be in Uganda?

One page for a fresh graduate, and two pages for most people with experience. Senior or NGO roles can run to three if every line earns its place. Check the advert: some ask for a maximum length.

Can I edit these templates in Word?

The samples are PDFs, so they are meant as a guide rather than a file to type over. The quickest way to get the same layout with your own details is the free cvmakerr builder, which also scores your CV out of 100 before you download it.
